Murder, Inc.

With all the sound and fury surrounding “the Ground Zero Mosque” claptrap, a rather important recent story in the NY Times has been overlooked: The Large-Scale Expansion of Worldwide Secret Military Assassination Operations by the US Government.

From the article we learn:

For its part, the Pentagon is becoming more like the C.I.A. Across the Middle East and elsewhere, Special Operations troops under secret “Execute Orders” have conducted spying missions that were once the preserve of civilian intelligence agencies. With code names like Eager Pawn and Indigo Spade, such programs typically operate with even less transparency and Congressional oversight than traditional covert actions by the C.I.A.

And this is a permanent war:

In a speech in May, Mr. Brennan, an architect of the White House strategy, used this analogy while pledging a “multigenerational” campaign against Al Qaeda and its extremist affiliates.

This reporting in conjunction with the reporting by the Washington Post and the heroic reporting by the likes of Jeremy Scahill paint a very clear, undeniable picture: We have a unaccountable secret government in the business of murder, and a cancerous growth of a secret intelligence institutional apparatus whose primary objective is to perpetuate and preserve this secret government. This a Nixonian wet dream. From a liberal institutional perspective, this is catastrophic failure.

Radical libertarians are often accused of being hyperbolic when comparing the State to the Mafia. Well, goddamned if this isn’t Murder, Inc. Some will counter that the US Secret Government is only killing al-qaeda. Well, no it’s not. It is killing innocent people as well. You have to be brain dead not to see how this spirals out of control. The NY Times piece gives an obvious example. The US Secret Government kills an innocent, highly respected official along with a suspected “terrorist.” The leader of the government of the home country has to pay “blood money” to tribal leaders to keep things quiet. The US Secret Government maintains it’s secrecy by bribery. How long before the price of the bribes becomes killing off the political enemies of these leaders? Anyone who tries to expose such an unconscionable corruption becomes an enemy of the State. The likes of a Julian Assange is a thorn in the side of this Secret Government when it comes to Afghanistan or Iraq, but he becomes a mortal threat if he documents outright political assassination. The inevitable putrid corruption of this secret government breeds a ubiquitous intelligence/police apparatus necessary to protect such a grossly corrupt government.

Politics is going to save us? Shit…As this bogus “Ground Zero Mosque” controversy demonstrates, politics continues to be dominated by communitarian distractions. Although I’m not a conspiracy theorist, Obama keeps doing a swell job of impersonating a “Manchurian Candidate.” In the end, it probably doesn’t matter if he were a programmed psychopath or not. The institutional political incentives are such that he is rewarded for acting like one.

This is Your Brain on Recycled Dope

From the DNC:

“Here goes Michael Steele setting policy for the GOP again. The likes of John McCain and Lindsey Graham will be interested to hear that the Republican Party position is that we should walk away from the fight against Al Qaeda and the Taliban without finishing the job. They’d also be interested to hear that the Chairman of the Republican Party thinks we have no business in Afghanistan notwithstanding the fact that we are there because we were attacked by terrorists on 9-11.

“And, the American people will be interested to hear that the leader of the Republican Party thinks recent events related to the war are ‘comical’ and that he is betting against our troops and rooting for failure in Afghanistan. It’s simply unconscionable that Michael Steele would undermine the morale of our troops when what they need is our support and encouragement. Michael Steele would do well to remember that we are not in Afghanistan by our own choosing, that we were attacked and that his words have consequences.”

Of course this out of the Rovian playbook. Actually, I think this a recycled RNC Press Release attacking Howard Dean back in the day. Just substitute Steele for ole Howard, Lindsey Graham and McCain for Lieberman, and Afghanistan for Iraq. Presto.

The Orwellian reality of the American State is a proto corporate fascism, ever so inevitably sliding into outright Mussolini Corporate Fascism, covered up by a political class serving up a mileu of recycled FDR vs. Recycled Reagan, with the ambitious, nihilistic politicos of both parties employing the modus operandi of the Karl Rove Ministry of Truth.

If you don’t buy the propaganda, well that’s what the Department of Homeland Security is for. From libertarian class analysis, we know the political rent-seeking of artificial rents for artificial security can greatly benefit the few while having devastating welfare effects on the many. The National Security State is an egregious form of plunder by the political class, pure and simple. And in such a case, a State is going to need a powerful internal security infrastructure to enforce the plunder. The primary function of DHS is to not only serve as a bureaucratic umbrella for enforcement of “law and security” in the United States, but to, by the very fact of it’s mere existence, explicitly and implicitly propagandize and condition the obedience to authority as a matter of National Security. Condition the sheep.

It should be clear that “Hope and Changey” is not going to free you from the tyranny of the political class. Indeed, the lessons of any “cult of personality” is that they usually don’t end well in terms of the liberty side of the ledger. In terms of America, Obama is hardly the first. We can go all the way back to George Washington himself, whose cult of personality upheld the legitimacy of the political class that had forged a “constitutional government” as means to thwart a democratic revolt around who would bear the burden of the revolutionary war debt.

Obama has served the purpose to re-legitimize the political class built around American exceptionalism that had become imperiled by Bush. The Change turned out to be the same rhetoric, same actions, same shit. And it’s becoming high comedy, continuing these long wars that incur trillions in debt and future liabilities, while the federal government now dispenses with the formality of a budget and the State governments toy with bankruptcy.

And at this point, I suppose most have had enough with the recycled FDR religion of the “Great Recession” and “The Recovery.” So, get ready for “Mourning in America,” courtesy of the ‘revived’ GOP.

America, fuck yeah, land of the Slave, home of the Sheep…

Democratic Party Establishment

Even though I am contributor at Freedom Democrats and have substantial agreement with the other contributors in terms of a philosophical approach to libertarianism, I just have to say, man, I don’t share their optimism about the Dem Party being the last great hope for liberty.

Case in point: Chuck Schumer. I consider Schumer to be an another corporate liberal pinhead; however, I didn’t know he was a religious fanatic, who cites disbelief in King David and the Torah as a rationale for Israel to use coercion, economic blockades, and strategic starvation to force the Palestinians to vote the way Israel wants them to vote. Glenn Greenwald provides the details.

Forgive me if I’m not too particularly interested in this motherfucker, a crook to begin who is awash in wall street monopoly money, who is a hard-core national security statist who is pushing legislation to have all us stamped and monitored in order to receive permission to make a living, having any political authority over my life. These statements are grounds for war crimes. As Juan Cole puts it, this is an example of the Nazi terror technique of Sippenhaft.

Of course, Schumer’s statements don’t validate the Republicans as any better alternative. Indeed, Bush recently admitted to War Crimes with a shrug of shoulder in public, obviously unconcerned about any repercussions. I’m just amazed to the extent that public professions of a rogue state are accepted in public discourse. Indeed, to dispute any of this makes you some sort of extremist. Of course, what we are seeing is a predictable consequence of the permanent war. War is health of the State. Permanent war is the health of the Rogue State. I’m dumbfounded the likes of Hillary Clinton can say things like citizenship, basic rights are privileges afforded by the State. Frankly, if the Dem Party establishment is the last great hope for liberty, then it’s time to run for the hills.

What fucking Bombshell?

Digby is shocked, just shocked at the supposed “bombshell” the Red Cross divulged a couple of days ago: there are secret prisons at Bagram.

What I wrote a year ago at Freedom Democrats:

Obama’s escalation in Afghanistan is going to make Gitmo look like a mom and pop bed and breakfast next to what is going to transpire at Bagram. No wonder Obama doesn’t want to pursue prosecution of Bush/Cheney. His war crimes in Afghanistan are going to make Bush’s look like “Springtime for Hitler”…
